Royal & Ancient

Chappaquiddick Links

Royal Chappy is not a golf course - it is an experience you will never forget.

  • North Neck Road, Edgartown, on the island of Chappaquidick

  • royalchappy.com

  • 508-627-2729

  • 9 Holes

Disclaimer:

This course belongs in its own category and our review is unapologetically biased as we are massive fans of this place and the people who run it.

Design

BIRDIE

The design prioritizes fun with mostly par 3s and two par 4s sprinkled in.

Holes range from 65-290 yards.

Apparently the course founders constructed several dozen holes.  Now we’re left with the best nine!

Playability

EAGLE

One of the most fun courses we’ve ever encountered.

Fun for all ages and skill levels.

Views

PAR

At the course highpoints, there are peekaboo views of the water in the distance, but when you are playing Chappy, you are in a tree-enclosed make-believe world where you can forget that the outside world even exists.

Vibe

HOLE IN ONE

The Chappy vibe is off the charts…

Playing the Chappy course is just part of the experience. Your trippy adventure begins when you take the 2 minute ferry to Chappaquidick Island.  If you are lucky, someone from the course will pick you up in one of their signature vehicles: Mr. Pickles or Tofu. Unfortunately, the larger VW bus, Lord Haggis, retired in late 2021.

Your short road trip will take you down a mysterious, tree-lined, winding dirt road.

You’ll know you are at your destination when you see the majestic (one-room) clubhouse  (shack) rivaled only by the great private clubs of the bygone era.

Condition

PAR

The course is literally run by one person – Brad.  It is truly incredible that one guy can keep the course looking great all year long.

The greens are the best part.  These are mature targets that roll true, but keep you on your toes.

Practice Areas

N/A

There are no designated practice areas other than the course itself!

19th Hole

BIRDIE

Like the practice areas, the course itself feels like a 19th hole.  Your celebration of your round begins with your first shot!

We suggest grabbing a beer (or 12) from the starting shack (before, during, or after your round) and listening to the Chappy staff tell stories of the course’s incredible history.

Logo

EAGLE (actually we’re not sure why kind of strange looking eagle or seagull Sir Reggie is…)

Not only does the Chappy logo look cool on just about anything, Sir Reginald, has some serious personality. Just ask him.

Memorability

HOLE IN ONE

The Royal & Ancient Chappaquidick links are unforgettable.

Chances are that you won’t remember your shots or your score, but you will take the Chappy vibes with you forever.
